Guardians of Guitar Recordings<\/strong> is a new imprint label dedicated to all things guitar. Michael Molenda<\/strong> \u2014 the longest serving Editor-in-Chief of Guitar Player<\/em> magazine (21 years) and founder of GuardiansofGuitar.com<\/a> \u2014 will head up the label, and will keep his ears open for new and exciting artists to provide releases for the label.<\/p>\n

As a journalist, musician, producer, audio engineer, and project director, Mike has interviewed Joe Satriani, Paul McCartney, Steve Vai, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, Les Paul, Ray Davies, Dave Davies, Dick Dale, Peter Frampton, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Andy Summers, Larry Carlton, George Lynch, Steve Lukather, Jennifer Batten, Nuno Bettencourt, Reeves Gabrels, Earl Slick, Richie Kotzen, Carlos Alomar, Iggy Pop<\/strong>, and George Martin<\/strong>, among others. During his tenure as GP’s Editor-in-Chief, Mike created the Guitar Player<\/em>\u2019s Guitar Superstar Competition, Guitar Player<\/em>\u2019s Certified Legend Award, and the Ronnie Montrose Rock the Nation Award honoring young guitarists who aspire to greatness.<\/p>\n

Prior to helming Guitar Player<\/em> magazine, Mike was Editor-in-Chief of Electronic Musician<\/em> from 1990-1998, and he helped transform the once-DIY\/computer magazine into the largest and most successful home-recording publication of its time. In 1983, he launched San Francisco\u2019s first live multimedia rock-theater piece, Streetbeat<\/strong>, at Bill Graham<\/strong>\u2019s Wolfang\u2019s Night Club with 20 dancers, a full band, projection screens, voice-overs, and actors. Whoopi Goldberg<\/strong> was the opening act.<\/p>\n

Mike has written and\/or edited several books for Hal Leonard Publishing, including The Guitar Player Book<\/em>, Guitar Heroes of the \u201970s<\/em>, and 50 Unsung Heros of the Guitar<\/em>. He also wrote and directed the video for Picture Me Broken\u2019<\/strong>s \u201c(Dearest) I\u2019m So Sorry\u201d and produced two songs by rockabilly artist Dave Cimmen<\/strong> for the Michael Douglas\/Sean Penn<\/strong> film, THE GAME. Additionally, he has produced and engineered tracks for clients such as NASA, Roto Rooter, SBK Music, Sire Records, The National Park Service, Lines Ballet<\/strong> and Max Headroom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Mike currently leads a rocked-up tribute to the Monkees \u2014 The Trouble With Monkeys<\/strong> \u2014 and plays bass with original act Bad Jacket<\/strong>, and drums for ’60s Mod tribute band The Diversions<\/strong> and surf group, Surf Monster<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
